November 2010 Summary

Hello hello,

It's that time again that we're going to check into our mailboxes and find within the Winds of Fury RPG forum newsletter with everything or at least some hint on what's been happening on the forum. Of course, as always, we do prefer it when people actually check in the forum itself and take part of all the happenings but we're not blaming anyone for being busy, for having a real life or whatever it may be that is keeping you from joining in on our fantastic RP.

With the end of the year coming, we have plenty to look back upon but we won't just yet. I'll leave it to our highly festive December issue. Just so now you have a taste of things to come, ha! Thankfully there is plenty to report from November(11th Month) as well so there is no worries at all that we would be running low on things to write about.

Out of Character News:

As tradition goes, the first and foremost Out of Character business is to welcome our newest additions. In November we gained two wonderful and active members. Please welcome to Winds of Fury Scribraven(Scribby!) and Evan. Both have created characters and set them loose onto the RP area so special kudos on that! We hope that you continue enjoying our forum and have a lot of fun roleplaying with us. We have certainly enjoyed your company so thanks for that :)

Last month's end saw the initiation of our activity check. We appreciate your activity and letting us know where we stand and in addition to now finished check, please remember that when you have any sort of problem or questions or comments, both myself and SRness are always happy to help and find solutions to whatever might be bothering you. It is not to say that we only get complaints - in fact I'm happily reporting so many satisfied customers so to speak and great feedback from our ever so lovely members. It's truly heart-warming and inspiring.

With your help, we have re-gained our position in the Pern Topsites listing and are about to take the 5th place! Go us! As always, keep clicking for your clicks help other Pern enthusiasts find us and come RP with us.

In addition to SRness' challenge involving most wonderfully hilarious quotes and phrases put into in character posts, I am about to post another challenge, this time an Out of Character one. But you'll have to check out the forums to see that one, I'm not telling just yet but I will say that as a result of it, we are all going to be winners.

As a last point of out of character interest, I would like to draw your attention to our gifts corner where you can go and drop all your presents to show a fellow WoFian your appreciation. It will be open all month and if it is to become a popular practice, I'm not against keeping it open for the future as well! So get to wrapping those pretty gifts of yours.

In Character News:

The following absolutely brilliant characters were created in the month of November: Fin(gall), Maere, Quirra, Rylan, Holly, B'xan, Ar'tel, N'van, E'mris, Gl'win and I'nora. 4 of them were Weyrlings, too! All these characters have settled in already and can be seen in various scenes all over the In Character forums. It's got to be one of our busiest months since the beginning. Cheers for that!

However, ICly the month has been tough on our Enkalans. Not only has the weather gone rubbish as it usually does in their part of Pern in the final months of the Turn, the sickness that was considered a mild case of flu, has been reaping lives left and right all through this cold, dark and damp month. It has reached every person, if not making them ill as well then touching someone close to them. Important characters like T'khor, Ava and J'cob have been ill but A'reus, Setsuna and E'rosen were stricken too. You know... the little people...But they seem to be recovering now. The death toll among the Lower Caverns folk is still unknown but it is known that among the riders, twenty-one have been lost, including L'sio, J'nas, H'kiah, H'ren, N'ris... Gavanth would like to point out he also had a stomach ache, poor worm... Thankfully your courageous if a little short-handed and slow healers have been working on finding the cure and are making great progress! Together we will get through this terrible time.

In addition, the rumours have been confirmed! A whole Istan Wing has asked to be transferred to Enkala Weyr! Of course, that was before the sickness so some of them may yet reconsider whether they want to put themselves in danger. But it is known - the drudge's aunt told her friend in the weyrguard station and he passed it onto the kitchen staff and Faranth knows where it went from there - that at least twenty new dragons are going to show up at the Weyr by the end of the Turn, assuming the healers solve the sickness mystery. This transfer has been a cause of great fights between the Weyrleaders - maybe that's why T'khor got ill? He always was too involved in his arguments - but by now they seem to have faded and an uncertain truce have been struck to nurture the bronzerider back to health.

At the end of the 12th Month there is going to be a Turn's End celebration. Despite everything going on the Weyrwoman declared that a feast was just the kind of a thing to cheer people up after such a rough month. Hopefully the difficulties are now behind them and the final month of 1757 will be peaceful and pleasant.

****

New this time! Ask Uncle T. The question was found from among the Weyrfolk anonymously and the answer written down before he could forget.

"Dear Uncle T, As of late my weyrmate has been acting strange. She's been avoiding me and the only times I see her is waking up next to her in the middle of the night. She says she doesn't want to have sex with me anymore, not even when it's cold. What do I do? - Frustrated Bluerider"

"Bluerider, She's probably just pregnant. Have K'rel take a look and then decide whether you want to spend the next 9 months waiting on her beck and call. If not, catch yourself a new green in the next green flight. I hear that Liath is rising... Best of luck."

October Summary 2010

Yo WoF! It’s DJ SR inda house! …Yeah okay, I really can’t pull that off, so here goes with a bit better grammar. Bear with me, it’s my first newsletter EVAR. It’ll be less refined than Nyaare’s previous letters, but that’s all good, right?

Right, so I’m just going to start and follow Nyaare’s set up and kick this thing off…

Oh but first, happy 2100th post everyone! Great job and I hope you all enjoy that extra character slot for some of the upcoming plots and events. Read on to see what I’m on about. *mysterious hand gesture*

OOC News

October has come and gone and a lot of major events happened at Enkala Weyr this month. But first things first, I’d like a really hot Enkala welcome for Jaaaacen! Jacen is our newest member, enjoys long walks on the beach, hot chocolate, candle light dinners…
Jacen has come to reinforce our awesome and is doing a kick ass job of it so far. We’re glad to have you Jacen.

Secondly I would like to point out to everyone that we are having a small activity check. It’s on the top of every forum you click, but if that’s not easy enough for you I’ll give you an easy click right HERE. Service, huh? Just follow the instructions and that is all, no hoops to jump through.

Lastly I would like to point out that I posted the first SRian challenge. SRian challenges are full of crack and crazy, be sure t check it out. For those of us who get commonly lost in the forums (yours truly included) here is a link.

October was the month of the great depression when it came to clicks. Some of you may have been witness to my laments on the chat about the sabotage we suffered! Well, I can’t yet proof that it was sabotage but my time will come… Winds of Fury was making an awesome ascend through the rank of the Pern Topsite Listing (the horrid purple page of doom), we were awesome! We were in fifth place! Then one day as we all went to make our religious click there, the server was offline.

Nyaare and I held our hearts, but it was to no avail as the whole server had crashed and had to be rebooted from a back up. This back up turned out to be more than a month old, so all our September clicks? Gone! We were set back to something ridiculous like 24th place! For shame, right? Well anyway, after the rage subsided we all double our efforts and today we once again broke onto the first page! Keep on clicking, they may take our clicks, but they will never break our spirit!

… It’s a good thing we broke onto the first page too or I’d have had nothing to fill up this OOC news with. So onwards, to the IC news, the real fun stuff!

In character news!

Awesome members don’t just show up without awesome characters and Jacen delivers us a M’rman, the lovable search rider with a love for pie! Also increasing her awesome levels (yes, gender has been established at last!) was Frangipani, and her awesome now also comes in the form or M’vari the Terrible Teddybear. M’vari is an ex-retire now turned Weyrlingmaster and he should have Weyrling lessons up soon, so keep your eyes peeled weyrlings, you don’t want to be late.

The Weyrlingmaster was perfectly timed – and Nya and I did NOTHING to pressure Frangi whatsoever, -- because we have honest to Faranth Weyrlings now. Talmeths’ second clutch hatched in a flurry of emotions and surprises. The Weyrleader pair couldn’t have been happier about the turn out.

Enkala Weyr proudly presents the following new dragonriders:

Kiera of Enkala Weyr and her Green Trinath
Sk’lar (Skylar) of Enkala Weyr and his Green Viorith
Nyanko of Enkala Weyr and her Green Sabriiath
Journeyman Harper Setsuna and her Green Pluth

All other weyrlings and their respective dragons will be NPCs until people fill up the slots, so if you missed the hatching, don’t be upset, just join a weyrling! All colours are still available to everyone.

The Hatching and the following feast were a great success and everyone drank, sang songs and was merry. Of course to all good things comes an end and with the breaking of dawn there were serious matters to attend to. No matter how lovable the Weyrleader is, the Holds can’t seem to get the hang of his charm. Having taken two candidates from their homes without permission from their respective guardians the Weyr has once again crossed the Holds surrounding Enkala and trouble is brewing.

To make matters worse a strange epidemic is sweeping through Enkala, no more than a day after the Hatching it claimed its first victim in the form of a Green Rider, H’ren. His dragon jumped between shortly after his passing. The symptoms of the disease seem as innocent as a simple stomach bug or a mild case of food poisoning. People start feeling under the weather, with head aches and stomach aches, throwing up is a common occurrence and the Headwoman urges everyone to drink plenty of water and juice should they find themselves thusly sick to prevent dehydration!

As has been mentioned throughout the game the Masterminer of Pern is surveying the marshes and swamps adjacent to Enkala and there is rumour of the founding of a new hold. Enkala Hold will be founded sooner rather than later and more Hold folk will be frequenting the Weyr with such proximity to it. Perhaps one of these could take up that fourth character slot?

Last but not least there is a much more disturbing rumour going around about Enkala slowly turning into Ista Weyr. Weyrwoman Seren herself comes from Ista and now there’s mention of more Istans coming to Enkala! Just what are those Istans playing at?
These very same Istans will also be available for play toward the end of November, so if you wish to play one, you will have to sit on that character slot for a little while longer!

September Summary 2010

Greetings once more!

With daily activity, the month flew by. Although many have been busy with
school, work or other things, Winds of Fury has now been running for five
months and is going strong. There are scenes happening everywhere and new
characters joining into the fun. From the day the new Gold arrived at
Enkala to stir things up until this day when the Hatching of her Clutch is
in full swing, the Weyr has seen quite a lot of action. Let me tell you -
we are just getting started! With the Hatching celebration coming up and
the new Weyrlings settling into their new lives, there also comes a more
sinister plot that concerns everyone in Enkala! Keep your eyes peeled and
enjoy your time on our little forum!

~*~ Out of Character(OOC) ~*~

September saw the following new players on Winds of Fury: Bahiti, Melissa
and Frangipani. Welcome, guys, it's great to have you. Don't hesitate to
contact people for plots, general open RP or anything you want to know,
comment, ask about on the forum. There is already another plot coming up
after the Hatching to jump into, so feel free to get involved in it. More
about that, however, in the In Characters news..

I have a few OOC news this month. First is more of a call-out to all of you
who have created your characters and placed them in Enkala Weyr or those of
you who haven't yet but have been considering it. Forum RPGs are nothing
without members and characters so do come around, play with us and add your
story to the pile of histories and drama going on. Besides myself, SRness
is also able to set up, review and give absolutely brilliant feedback,
suggestions and comments on character concepts. There's an adoptable list
with fantastic pre-made characters to pick up - they're mainly set up with
bare minimums so that players could take them and make them their very own,
something they want the characters to be. For most of the adoptables, the
only thing that is pre-determined is name, age, dragon and position. Since
most of them are riders of rank(Wingleader, Wingsecond etc), it's a given
really. That said any character mentioned in the Weyr Records Book in
Weyrwoman's Quarters with a mark of it being an NPC is adoptable and be
chosen to be played. So think on it, discuss with us, see what you can up
with. Your character can make all the difference!

In September, there were two birthdays. One was mine so move along... the
other was Desh's! Happy birthday in a belated but still very cuddly and
loving way, Desh! *hands over a handful of wild-flowers and hopes Desh
doesn't have any allergies*

Lastly, a little note about your daily clicks. At the bottom of the forum's
front page are two important buttons I've mentioned before. One is for
RPG-D Fandom Topsites and the other for Pern Topsites. You can click those
daily so go ahead and do it! Thanks to all of our help and activity, Winds
of Fury is now among the Top 10 Pern sites! Well done, guys and keep
rocking!

~*~ In Character(IC) ~*~

The following new characters were added in September: L'vin and Graehym. A
much needed greenrider for the newly opened Gray Wing and another Healer to
lighten the burden of the current ones who are also needing to do their
duty as dragonriders! Considering the newest plot will make most of the
Weyr sick, it is also a very well timed appearance!

As mentioned, the newest Wing to open for characters is the Gray Wing. Once
the laughing stock of the whole Weyr with its lazy and out of control
riders, the Gray has been shaken up by the transfer of most of it's riders
into different Wings, replacement of it's Wingleader and Wingsecond and has
been making slow but sure progress with new and fresh blood from various
other Wings. For the time being, all new dragonrider characters created
will join the Gray Wing by default unless requested particularly. The new
Wingleader is M'kailo(Played by Jana) and the Wingsecond S'meil is an
adoptable NPC, a young, feisty brownrider hell bent on proving his worth.

That said, the Red Wing is also in search of a Wingsecond. While the
Wingleader gets things done just fine, it isn't really plausible that he
would keep it up forever. So when you have a bronze- or brownrider idea
floating around in your head and feel like up to the challenge, contact
J'cob(Played by Nyaare) and it can be arranged.

As another wanted ad, Enkala Weyr is in dire need of a Weyrlingmaster.
While it could be any (elderly) bronzerider, browns and blues are also
considered given that they are not in their first youth anymore and have
considerable experience in dragonriding and how things are ran in Enkala
Weyr. For more information, contact the Weyrleader, T'khor(Played by
SRness). Please, would you think of the children!

Following a successful Clutching in the previous month, the end of
September saw the beginning of Hatching of Talmeth's Second Clutch. 37 eggs
were laid on the Sands and the scene is still going strong so if you have
an idea for a Candidate/Weyrling, check out the Hatching information, set
up your concept and send Nyaare the dragon information for your desired
Impression. There are plenty of greens, blues and browns, even a few
bronzes available still so get them while they're hot! That said, the
Weyrling positions have been opened up for those of you who rather would
just go straight into Weyrlinghood without making it to the Hatching.

Following after the Hatching and Hatching Celebration that will begin after
the Hatching scene is done, a new and darker plot develops. Herdbeasts have
been getting sick and the beastcrafters have no idea why. And as if that
wasn't enough, some Weyrfolk, even riders have been feeling under the
weather recently as well. What might be going on? Join in and find out as
the storyline continues to unravel. This is certainly a plot everyone can
take part of.

Well, this is it. News are exhausted but surely there have been a lot more
than that going on so you best come and check it out yourself.

Clear Skies!

August Summary 2010

Hello there!

I am sorry for this being a few days late but here it is! The fourth volume in the monthly summary into the exciting life at Winds of Fury Pern RPG forum! As always, best way to get up to date information on what’s going on, is to check it out yourself by logging in and reading up at the source of the wealth. But here are the snippets nonetheless!

~*~ Out of Character(OOC) ~*~

In August we gained the following new members: Anima, Sparkle, Delirium and Skye. Some of them have already found their spots and created their characters, I hope that you can come up with awesome concepts that will be fun to roleplay with and as. If you’re stuck, never be shy to contact either me(Nyaare) or SRness for ideas or post in Character plot forum to get the general public’s opinions.

I know usually in these little summaries, I report our advance toward some sort of post count goal. Well, not this time! We post at our own pace and are having fun just like that. That said, I will tell you there is a lovely surprise for all of us waiting once we get to our 2000th post.

The main OOC news involves the addition to the staff team. Please welcome or woe her name as SRness takes up a space in the Drudge’s Quarters, becoming the first content Mod in the game. She will be welcoming, reviewing and accepting new characters, modding the forums, doing some challenges and advertising if she gets the time.

Speaking of advertising, as you might have noticed, we now have an active advertising forum. It’s guest friendly and is available for anyone promoting their forum. The general point of the board is to link games so they would be easy to find when you want something other than what you’re doing now. It’s not an invitation to dump us(mainly because we’d be terribly sad and suffer greatly) but it is an opportunity to see beyond the fence, so to speak. Affiliating with WoF is for active members only, if you wish to do so, post your in the advertising forum and PM me with the button code.

As a conclusion to the Out of Character news section, I would like to remind everyone of you that the success of the board depends on all of us being active and enthusiastic. Sure, it doesn’t mean you should spend your whole days here but take interest, join open threads, plot and get together with other players and create new and interesting storylines. Bring your friends in on this if you think they would be willing to play in the theme, use our button and ad when surfing other forums. Of course, that is a voluntary favour you would gain cookie points for merely.

For those of you who keep coming back and playing with us – thank you, you are brilliant! For those of us who aren’t still sure if they want to play on Winds of Fury – no pressure, take your time and get to know us, the plot, the forum setup and when you feel ready, we’ll welcome you among the crowd!

~*~ In Character(IC) ~*~

August saw the creation of the following wonderful characters: J’sey, E’rosen, Lancelle and Mathias. A great balance of dragonriders and Weyrfolk there or shall we say dragonriders and potentials? *winks* Please seek them out and offer them the best Enkala Weyr has to give!

On the 20th Day of the 8th Month, Enkala Weyr’s gold dragon began Clutching. Though many wanted to behold this amazing event, few could for the process needed peace and quiet, something Enkalans were not known for. Although the Weyrwoman had all the confidence in her Queen, even she looked a little worried during the long hours from when it all began and once the last egg was placed on the warm sands.

But that was unnecessary! Like many Queens before her, Talmeth handled it all with grace and dutifully clutched 37 eggs! That is indeed one of the biggest Clutches Enkala had ever seen! Although the golden egg remained elusive, S’ren was certain it would be in the next Clutch.

For the Searchriders, this meant even more Candidates were required. The Weyrleaders placed before them a list of demands the young person they find had to fill. The age requirement(16 to 20 Turns), the strength of character, the sheer number of them! The Weyrleader insisted on more male Candidates while the Weyrwoman said there would be quite many female ones as well.

What colours of dragonets emerge from the eggs the Queen now guards with zeal, remains to be seen at the Hatching that takes place on the 23rd Day of the 9th Month. The Weyr Historian would like to remind the Candidates to send in the information on their future lifemates to her before that date. Also, more Candidate characters are accepted at least until then. (Info)

Although the Clutching was indeed among the most important events in the 8th Month of the year 1757, an unexpected obstacle was met when during a thunderstorm at the 6th Day the Weyrling Barracks caught fire after an unfortunately struck lightning. Efforts to put out the fire during the storm were assisted by most of the Weyr. There was nobody in the barracks at the time so nobody got hurt, however now the rebuilding is in a mad rush to get everything done by the Hatching. Luckily some of the Holds the Weyr has better relations with, are helping Enkala out. The Weyrwoman said the renovations will be on time and precautions have been taken to avoid the barracks from catching fire so easily.

Naturally there were minor plots, personal scenes, otherwise fun bits of time to be had during the 8th Month but not everything should be on the bulletin.

Good flying out there!

July Summary 2010

Hello everyone!

This is the third installment of Winds of Fury newsletter sent out in the end of every month/beginning of the next, depending on how busy the admin is. Although this is sent out to keep everyone up to date with the going-ons on the forum, in the roleplay and outside of it, let me remind you that the best way to keep track of things is to be in the middle of them! So do pop in, roleplay and don't forget us!

~*~ Out of Character (OOC) ~*~

The following members joined during the month of July: Livs, Srudk and Jana. Please make them feel welcome and find the time to roleplay with them and their lovely characters. Welcome, guys :)

This month saw the arrival of our 1000th post that we passed and as we are storming onward, I'd like to thank you all for being so active and creative and making Winds of Fury a place of your own. Without its' members active efforts to have fun above anything else, it would be but an empty shell. And seeing as we are now doing a long stretch from 1400 to 2000, let me assure you that upon reaching that milestone, there will be surprise waiting for all of us, Pern fans!

Quite a few of us took the opportunity of having a third character this month, creating even more wonderful possibilities to tweak the plot of the game and have an impact on the daily going-ons in Enkala Weyr. I'd especially like to cheer for all of you who have been picking up notable adoptables. Thanks to you, V'lery, J'cob, G'nys and M'kailo have found their players. Hope to see them frequently in the game!

Another news involves the opening of a second wing to have player characters in it. Under the leadership of J'cob, the Red Wing will be attempting to rival the Black in the competition for the best wing in Enkala! Until the wing has equally many player wingriders in it, all dragonrider characters created will go into the Red.

Please support our game in its efforts of becoming more popular, by clicking on the Topsites links in the bottom of the index page - one for the RPGD Fandom RPs Topsite and the other for the Pern Universe Topsites. While on the RPGD Topsite, also rate the game. It is currently in the 61-80 range and hopefully will climb the ranks with your assistance.

Tell your friends about Winds of Fury. If they are fans of Dragonriders of Pern series, they might be inclined to join up as well. I also encourage everyone to do a little advertising on their own. Use our button in your forum signature, put a link here or there. Subtly and tastefully of course, we don't want to be too pushy. I will tell you that recruiting will be the objective to the first OOC challenge I will post in August.

Again, thank you all for being such awesome community and rock on!

~*~ In Character (IC) ~*~

These are the wonderful and exciting new characters created during the month of July 2010: Kiera, Ava, J'cob, G'nys, Jh'nin, Corvin, S'lene, L'nai and M'kailo. Some of them are quite important rank wise and others are just great fun! I'm sure they will all find interesting and awesome scenes to be a part of.

Life at Enkala has been continuing and many say things have improved since the change in Weyrleadership. Although the new wing settings are not to everyone's liking, the new Wingleaders are doing their best to setting their wingriders up with the necessary skill-sets and desire to do what they were born to do - to fight Thread in less than a Turn now. Since being shuffled, the Black Wing has taken a little tumble from it's high seat but with the state all the other Wings are in, it is of no consequence. The dragonriders at Enkala Weyr have a massive amount of work still ahead just getting ready to fly Thread.

A slight stir in the Weyr was in the beginning of the month when the young green dragon Kirith rose to mate for the very first time. The morning after found quite a few awkward couples in the private quarters and not all of them were... expected. The lovely green was captured by the blue Obileth and her rider found himself a weyrmate in the blue's rider. So all in all, everything worked out well enough.

The gold dragon has been getting heavier with eggs and bets have been made as to how many eggs she will clutch in the end of the 8th Month. Some say it will be the biggest Clutch at Enkala, others remain skeptical. Sure, she rose to mate conveniently this time but how about the next Turn? The flow of new dragons must be constant from there-on due to the dire need the Weyr and the surrounding areas are. The Queen herself and her rider don't seem worried and carry on toward the Clutching happily enough.

The Searchdragons are now sent out in full capacity, aiming to bring in at least three times the amount of eggs of Candidates in order to give the Hatchlings plenty of choice among those who Stand. If you have an idea for a Candidate character, please contact Nyaare with it.

If you check out the Weyrwoman's Quarters for the Weyr Personnel Records and find yourself an NPC you would like to adopt, don't be shy! They are most of them, open for grabs and would be yours and yours alone if you take them up. There are still openings for various positions in the Weyr like the Weyrlingmaster, another healer and all kinds of Crafters - smith, weaver, herdcrafter, painter. The choices are endless and completely yours.

June Summary 2010

Sunny greetings to you!

Here is the second edition of the Windfury newsletter. In the effort to give a monthly review of the going-ons on Winds of Fury Pern RPG Forum. It is sent to all the OOC accounts registered and will inform you all of what has been happening at Enkala Weyr both In and Out of Character.

~*~ Out of Character (OOC) ~*~

Please join me in welcoming the following new members to our board: Desh and Scarlett. May the RP deities smile upon them and embrace them with plenty of plots, scenes and other miscellanous fun. Welcome!

With the approach of our 1000th post, allow me to officially let you all know that in honour of that great milestone, the character quota will be upped from 2 to 3. Yes, that’s right, folks! We get an extra character to play with(assuming we want one) so get planning! The rules will be updated accordingly.

While on the subject of celebrations, on the 19th of June, we had our official first month anniversary. On the 19th of May, 2010, the first RP scene was started by the ever so awesome SRness whose character T’khor has provided many of us with hours of amusement and happy reading. We did say our „happy birthdays“ already but let me do so again – well done everyone! The first month of In Character activity was fierce and some fantastic and memorable scenes were had. Thank you for making it all possible.

I’d like to draw everyone’s attention to the bottom of the index page of the forum. No, it’s past the chatbox but you’re of course, welcome to use it to your heart’s content. What I wanted you to look at are two topsites buttons – RPGD Fandom Topsites and Pern Universe Topsites. Upon clicking there once every 24 hours, you give your support to our forum and allow it to rise in ranks to be viewed by more and more Dragonriders of Pern enthusiasts. In addition, a rating can be placed on Winds of Fury on RPGD Fandom Topsites that will lift us up(or bring us down, depending on which way you rate us) on that listing as well. As noted, everyone can vote once a day and upon doing so, you earn my eternal gratitude and that of fluffly ninja bunnies.

Before we settled with the current chat software, we briefly used one that included ads with possibly malicious bugs in them. We’ve long since replaced it and deleted the chat from our servers but please do let us know if the forum is giving you any troubles with whatever Anti-Virus you have installed.

Winds of Fury blog page is http://windsoffury.blogspot.com/ and these newsletters will also be posted there as well as any other recent news and announcements.

As a final note to our OOC News, I’d like to remind you all that if there is anything you see that could be fixed, improved or cleared up, there is a Suggestions Box in the General Chatter forum you can leave your thoughts in and we will happily work on things.

Rock on!

~*~ In Character(IC)~*~

The following new characters were created during the month of June: D’jan, R’in, Mir’an, V’lery, K’rura, Setsuna and Razek.

As was to be expected, the roleplay has been going on in a mad pace. From the simple friendly chats to scenes that influenced the whole Weyr, it has been lovely to follow. With the addition of new characters and some NPCs, the main plot of the board has gotten a move on quite nicely.

What is the main plot, you may ask now? It’s quite simple – to last long enough to meet the Thread in the coming Pass, flame it dead and come back as heroes. As the introduction to the forum’s setting says, it is approximately one Turn(year) before the beginning of the 7th Pass on Pern, the Red Star is burning in the sky already but isn’t quite in the Eye Rock yet. In order for Enkala to be ready to fly Thread, it needs to get through the Search, the Hatching, live through the cold winter and train their hearts out until the time comes to do what dragons and subsequently, the riders were destined to do but haven’t done for centuries because of the Interval. Some of the Holders don’t think Thread will come at all, that it’s all an intricate plot of Weyrs to get tithes out of them and refuse to prepare for the occasion. In the area around Enkala, it is especially widespread due to the Weyr’s general bad luck and going-ons of late. How will our dragonriders persuade the people of Pern that they are worthy of their support and that the deadly spores will come no matter how much they wish they wouldn’t?

There is currently a party scene open and still going on with the Weyrwoman’s birthday but more than that, to celebrate the new beginning of the Weyr. It’s being held at the Weyrbowl and anyone can join while it’s going on.

We welcome any plot related suggestions and additions that you may have so if you have a great idea, don’t let it sit! Come to us and we can brainstorm up something brilliant.

Although the Search hasn’t started yet, all folks wanting to play Candidates are welcome to start making their young characters either from Weyrbrats or completely fresh Candidates from outside the Weyr. Our Searchdragons Obileth(rider K’rel – PC) and Eliath(rider M’rman – NPC) are on the lookout for potential and will happily pick up anyone.

With that in mind, there are a number of highly important positions we are actively trying to fill, most of all the Weyrlingmaster(a rider of any kind aged 40+) and the Headwoman. Since we are also opening up another Wing for player characters, we are also looking for people to take over the Wingleader NPCs – L’sio, M’kailo and J’cob. There are other adoptables and for those, please check out the Notable and Adoptable Weyr NPCs/OCs from the Character plot ideas and suggestions forum. The first Wingleader to be adopted will be the leader of the next player filled Wing.

Meet you at Enkala!

May Summary 2010

Greetings, folks!

Although not a full month old, there is still a whole lot of things to report for the first monthly review of Winds of Fury RPG Forum. These newsflashes will be sent at the end of every month(unless there are unforseeable circumstances a la a brick falling on my head or an attack of evil nuclear squirrels) and will be divided into two parts – OOC and IC news. So without further ramble, here goes!

~~~***OOC(Out of Character)***~~~
First, don’t laugh but...
Please welcome the following new members to our board:
Aailski, Kylee, Makato, Evelyn, SRness, Charlie, Aliera and Bexx. Make them feel welcome, warm and fuzzy and include them in your in character activities which are fun and many!
Several of you already have characters set up and are jumping into the Weyr’s life with happy squeals but let me just remind you that whenever you’re in doubt, have a question, concern or comment, please feel free to come to me so we can figure it out one way or another. And if your concern is about me, you can always throw Kamach a PM – he’s pretty good at walking me up and onto the plank.
That said, I’d like to introduce our staff that although small-ish, is enthusiastic at what they do and happy to help whenever!
My admin account name is Nyaare but I also sometimes go by Elorian, Niamee, Raewin... The options are unlimited though Elorian is the one I use mostly for my Out of Character identity. It may happen that I will change the admin name to that so when I do, don’t be alarmed, otherwise I’ll be exactly the same!
I’ve Rped for over ten years and adminned forums about 7 of them, starting with an Anita(Blake)verse forum and Black Jewels Trilogy one and now, my third little baby, the Winds of Fury. I’ve always been crazy about the Dragonriders of Pern series and the character I created(S’ren) had been rummaging around my brain for about a decade or more, ever since reading the books.
Outside the interwebz I’m a desk monkey from Estonia in her late twenties(I can say that about 29, right?), I’m from a large family that at first considered themselves the Addams’s and by now has been demoted to the Simpsons. I have a white fluffy cat and friends in and out of the worldwide web. I’m welcome to new ideas and suggestions, I love to read and write and I’m crazy about Karl Urban(shhh). Don’t be shy when wanting to contact me, I don’t bite, at all.
My fellow admin Kamach(Kammie) is the strong and silent type. He’s around when needed and fixes what I break which unfortunately happens alot. Although not exactly the Pern enthusiast that I am, he’s a fair and considerate boyo and deserves all the respect and love we have! As for any further introductions, I’ll let you ask him yourselves and see what you can find out.
If you haven’t noticed yet, I would like to draw your attention to the art-work of the forum. In my opinion in tune with the simple theme I wanted for the place and very much looking like something actually drawn on Pern, it’s all made by Lee. He’s absolutely brilliant, most helpful even if I do twist his arm and make him change an icon for about eleven times before satisfied. The forum images and all but one rank icons are original art made by him. Thank you!
For the time being, I’m not looking to find another staffer. I find that with my high levels of enthusiasm and with some patience and persistence from you guys, we can manage just fine. If however, you have ideas you think would work for the forum or awesome suggestions on how to bring more activity, better plots and such into the game, please feel free to PM them to me.
~~~***IC(In Character)***~~~

The following characters were created during this month:

Paughlene, S’ren, T’khor, Nyanko, Skylar, K’rel, Kinnek, A’rik, A’reus.

The RP has been furious, scenes have been flying right away with flaring tempers, new acquiantances, changes, newly found friendships and disappointments.

It all began with the arrival of S’ren from Ista Weyr, as the replacement to the aging Weyrwoman and the young one who was killed in a disoriented going Between-accident. Noone is happy with the solution and as the new Weyrwoman finds out, they’re not exactly shy to let her know what they think of things. In turn, S’ren finds herself at loss with how bad the situation at the Weyr really is – lacking Flight training, lazy and rowdy alcohol-abusing dragonriders, fighting wings that have more holes in them than Benden cheese... Not to mention the seriously lacking discipline the woman finds especially off-putting, coming from the well-working Ista Weyr.

The next logical step would be to go through the new Queen’s mating flight, also solving the issue of the Weyrleader. Filled with bums and troublemakers the Weyr sure has it’s share of those who think they not only could but should become the next Weyrleader. Not knowing much about any of them, S’ren has left it all up to her gold, Talmeth, to choose which bronze(or brown?) will catch her. The Weyr needs more dragons desperately so the rider dares not distract the Queen with her opinions about the riders of these males willing and ready to fly her. Rest assure it is nothing positive anyway.

While the big boys(and girl) go about their powerplay, the inner workings of the Weyr go on with the support staff, the weyrbrats and others living their lives almost as if apart from the dragonriders.

The 7th Pass begins in a year. Will Enkala be ready?
