November summary 2011

Greetings, salutations and hello!

As always, the monthly newsletter comes in the first week of the next month! Meaning here we stop and take stock of what has been going on on Winds of Fury Dragonriders of Pern RPG forum. But even before we go into the OOC news as always, I would like to take a moment and remember the wonderful writer that has given us the world we play in - Anne McCaffrey might have passed away on the 21st of November but her characters, her ideas and worlds continue on always! RIP.

In the month of November, the following lovely new people joined us: Heart, Britt and Ayra! Welcome welcome, we hope you enjoy your time on WoF. Don't be shy if you have a question, comment, plot idea that sounds crazy at first. We love hearing from you and RPing with you so there we go. Also we had the return of Star and Kylee. Welcome back to you, two. Looking forward to writing with you, too.

In November, our Halloween scenes continued. They can and should be still finished but the creation of new ones has drawn to a stop. Don't forget we have a few guessing games and titles to give out concerning this fun and scary special event so stay tuned on the event topic here To all of you still finding your beastly selves - definitely continue to the victorious end. It is terribly fun!

As you can see from our slightly seasonal banner - original graphic by Desh and garland-ed up by Lee - the merrymaking holidays are approaching! For your IC/OOC and otherwise ambiguous Christmas/Turnover presents, visit this topic. Don't forget to leave your gifts there from yourself, your characters and to whoever! It is the time of spreading joy, after all.

As IC news will also emphasize, we are on the hunt for Searchriders. So if you read this and are thinking of creating a new character or spicing up an old one - make it a Searchrider! It is a good position and from now on, often used to bring in more and more fresh Candidates. Both old and new members are welcome to create such lovely people.

Last but not least, there is an on-going Activity Check, the last one this year. It can be found here Lets check in and rock into the new year!

In case I don't see you before next newsletter - happy holidays, everyone!

The biggest news in the weyr is golden. As in golden Talmeth has finally risen! Several males have already taken flight after the queen but fear not! The thread is located HERE and open to any adult bronzes (or bold brown maybe?!) who seek glory, Seren’s bed skills, and of course the impressive mantel as Weyrleader! Will the Enkalan bred T’khor reclaim his title? Will Istan transfer G’tien keep his tenuous hold on the metaphorical crown? Or will the victory go to one of the new challengers?! Only time will tell!

Aside from the action in the sky we are pleased to welcome some new IC faces to Enkala. LinkNovembers new arrivals include: the weyrbrat Zaria, weyrling Ilista, bronzerider V’mer and weyrling Nyali! Many of them have already jumped into the fray so keep an eye out! And while I’m at it I’ll plug our Matchmaker which is great for people looking to get into some nice and naughty threads but unsure how to go about it. =D Just as fun but not as dirty as it sounds usually.

As the Weyr waits in earnest for the gold flights winner to emerge the relationship with the holds continues to be tense. Is the hold holding out on the half halfheartedly supplied weyr? Or is the weyr wretchedly wringing all it can from the weary holders? Opinions differ but I never get tired of alliteration. Guess we’ll find out come winter.

In anticipation for another clutch the weyr is in search of search riders (ha!), all interested blue and green riders please come forward! Speaking of searchriders check out this nifty segue where I pimp our adoptables! Aside from being made by members of Winds of Fury these adoptable characters are open ended and have lots of guaranteed plot potential! They are looking for a good home so please consider them when you're thinking of your next char. And you are...aren't you?!

The weyrleadership is up for grabs! Thread is falling regularly. Turnover is just around the corner. The weather may be cooling down but things at Enkala are just heating up!

Thanks to Desh for the help with this newsletter! :)

October Summar 2011

Greetings, denizens of WoF!

It’s time to look back on the previous month and all the fun we have had and to share some important messages and announcements you should know. In other words, it is newsletter time!

OOC News.

October was a busy month for us all, RL and on the board. I will start off with what brought some excitement all through the member-base and that’s the great voting race! Despite us not offering anything besides more posting love and respect to our members, you guys came together and clicked us on top of the Topsites. Well done, it was wonderful to see everyone so hyped about this! While the rush is over, we appreciate any further clicking and reviewing of our board by our members and others, in the future as well.

As I mentioned in the previous newsletter, the signing up for the Halloween event continued in October as well until on 31st, SR finally revealed it and it is a good one! Everyone got a secret identity for their characters and a scene-buddy to play out the spooky story of our very alternate universe Halloween season. There are dangerous, almost apocalyptic(har har, see what I did there?) creatures running around in this separate timeline and so far the event is a huge success! Please feel free to check out the scenes so far in our timeline topic and the event topic. Remember there are prizes to be had and monsters to kill and we’re not resting till the world is safe again! Or till the boogiemen finally take over.

We also have some people taking part of the widely known writing event of NaNoWriMo which means their goal is to write 50 thousand words during the month of November. I wish you all the best and know you can do it so have fun with it, folks!

Last but not least at all, the time lords have tinkered with the IC time again and we have moved onto the next period, which is the autumn-winter of 1758. So new scenes should be put into the months of 10th, 11th and 12th of 1758. Of course, the older scenes can and should still be finished so don’t panic if you’re not quite caught up yet. Nothing gets locked and put away simply for being in the older time-zone.

IC News.

To wrap up the general IC events that happened in October, I will use the great and effective bullet point method!

- The tensions between the Weyr and Hold increase as the Weyrleader squeezes them for the delayed tithes – not something a new Hold can really uphold just yet, and the Hold’s heir continues his nonconstructive criticism of the Weyr, not winning any popularity contests there.
- New Searchriders are sought – it is known that the Weyrwoman has been interviewing possible new additions among Enkala’s blueriders but also greenriders! What’s next, brownrider Searchriders? We shall see!
- Old records clearly indicate that Golds rise more often during the Pass so now, every set of bronzer and ambitious brownrider eyes are fixed on Enkala’s Queen Talmeth, willing her to rise and bring Weyrleadership to yet another man. Or has G'tien perhaps won the Weyrwoman over well enough during his term to have her sway the odds in his and his dragons’ favour? All will be soon revealed.
- Fourth Clutch! It must be lucky and the Golden Egg MUST be in this one. Surely it is time or even past the time for Enkala to have a second Gold! Rumour says that even if Talmeth spawns a much revered Gold Egg this time around, negotiations with a few other Weyrs are being finalized and possibly another mature Gold getting transferred to the struggling Weyr. How would that work? Whatever the case, more dragons are greatly needed for each Thread Flight picks at the ranks of the Weyr’s fighting Wings.
- On the bright side, the older Weyrlings are just about ready to graduate and the younger class has been growing and developing with a steady, quick pace. No longer tiny versions of their grown-up brethren, the dragonets from the Third Clutch simply must grow up faster than ever before.

Well, that’s it for now. Remember to swing by the forum and take part of the Halloween event and of course, the regular timeline as well. We are in need of bronzeriders and greenriders but also Holders, Crafters and really, anything you can think of that fits the Pernese scene. There is an awesome Wanted Characters list.

Look forward to seeing you on Winds of Fury!

September Summary 2011

Hello everyone!

I am as always, fashionably late with the Newsletter. But here it is at long last and sent using the new nifty Newsletter option in SMF admin panel. I hope it works. Please work! *shakes the forum!* Ahem, anyway. Here we go.

OOC News.

If you have logged into the forum during the past month, you would already know this but if you haven’t, I’m happy to report that we moved from phpbb3 software we were using before onto SMF and everything went well. Informational topics, links and accounts have been suitably fixed, the new look is great and so far I have received no complaints about this change. That doesn’t of course mean I wouldn’t want to receive when should you have problems with the forum now. So don’t be shy!

On this new SMF forum, we are using sub-accounts mod that makes our system of an account per character easy to manage. With a little setting up, you can set your character accounts up as your sub-accounts and then have no need to log in and log out to post with different characters. You merely have to switch around the account using the very much visible drop-down menu on the forum’s front page or when posting, it allows you to do so with any of your linked accounts. And if your finger slips or you forget, upon editing your post, the option to pick the account you post with, is available. Nifty eh?

SR has made this awesome linking guide for us, with pretty pictures and step by step instructions: http://www.dancingshadows.net/Windfury/index.php?topic=1815.0

In other news, the end of October will have an awesome holiday called Halloween, and we are looking to start a tradition from throwing fun events in those occasions. If you remember the Valentine Day’s event, this will be much like it so if you liked that, you will love the Halloween event! It will be RP related and it will be very much thematic. OooooOOooo! *cough* Right then. Why I mention this so early is because like VD event, this will have signups so this serves as a heads up to keep your eyes peeled on the General Chat sub-forum for when the topic pops up. Naturally I will not tell you what the event is about but it will be great!

IC News.

As the Hatching and Hatching Feast continued, it has now become clear that the newest Clutch is brown-dominated. These pretty chocolate dragonets have all but one found a player for them and theirs and are now actively inserting themselves into the going-ons of Enkala, whether Enkala wants it or not. Here’s to hoping all the young dragonets grow up to be strong and fast and clever as they supply the Weyr’s wings with much-needed reinforcements. But that is yet Turns away right now...

For the Senior Weyrlings, it is an approaching reality. Some of the bigger young dragons from Talmeth’s Second Clutch have already been employed in Thread Flights, either passing firestone or doing some flaming of their own. Hopefully the young ones won’t break under all that pressure. Something for the Weyrleader to consider, eh?

Speaking of which... According to the old texts, Queens should be rising more often now that Pass has started so perhaps Enkala will have a new Weyrleader very soon? Although at this time Talmeth shows no signs whatsoever of preparing to rise to mate, the day may be closer than we think! Who will run into... err... who will heroically catch Talmeth this time, making his rider the new Weyrleader of Enkala Weyr? Will it be anyone the Weyrwoman will not deny residence in her Quarters this time around?

And once again, following on that topic, about a week after the Hatching, the Weyrwoman of Enkala delivered a Clutch of her own! The Weyr’s Lower Caverns’ ladies are all awed and suitably aflutter as the new additions to the Weyr’s Personnel Records – Serti the girl and Sorren the boy – display striking similarities with their father, the bronzerider T’khor who is the former Weyrleader of Enkala and as many hope, the future one as well.

Much more is going on. Mourning of the lost ones, teenage outbursts of irrationality, young puppy love and drunken dragonhealers and oddly behaving drudges. Oh my! Enkala is full of activity so come and read the rest on yourself.

August Summary 2011

Hello everyone!

It is time for the newsletter again. As the last one was so late, this one is fairly on schedule as will be the next ones. This I solemnly swear! A lot has happened so I’ll get right on it.

OOC News:

Since the last newsletter, so since the middle of August, we’ve had the following new members join us: Weetia(Tia), Ethaiel and Patty. I bid you all a very warm welcome and hope you will have a lot of fun Rping on Winds of Fury.

As some of you might have noticed, Desh has become pink instead of the lovely blue of the OOC accounts. She requested pink so who am I to refuse, hm? It simply means that Desh is now a moderator on our forum. She will be keeping stuff up to date and advertising as well and much as she wants to(lets be honest, I am a way too relaxed boss) and of course, she will continue to advise and help new members as well as old, being the walking Pern Encyclopedia that she is. Thank you for joining the team, Desh!

We’re currently running an activity check, third in this year so if you haven’t done so already, go check out this topic: http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1788 It’s also a global announcement so it’s pretty difficult to ignore if you’re looking around the forum. This thing will run until the 15th of September – make sure you’ve posted in it before that. Thanks!

This month and the next we will have less of SR and a bit less of me as well but I will at least log in daily to do some administration job. If you have something that you want done and only I can help you, please send me a PM. We also wish SR a great vacation in the land of pasta and errr... pizza! No, it’s not New York. Desh can help you, too now, keep that in mind. And RP shall still take place so don’t stop having fun!

IC News:

These are our brand-spanking new characters: Syva, S’bat, D’tin and Elkira. All have already been dunked into RP so the best I can wish you is continued fun with the scenes you have now and in the future.

The Hatching has gone surprisingly well! We have had two browns Impress, a blue pop out of the egg, a bronze and two (PC) greens as well! Congratulations to Vainnan(V’nan), Razek(R’zek), Sebat(S’bat), Dintin(D’tin), Faun and a little prematurely to Malakai(M’kai) as well! Everyone is also welcome to join the Hatching Feast(the scene can be found here: http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1775 ).

The First Thread Flight continues, if a little slower but I believe the first permanent results are indeed out and known to all. K’rel of blue Obileth fell and several dragons and riders were hurt but the battle was eventually won. As a side-note, all of you with dragonrider characters should be aware that from now on, the Thread Flight happens every 10 days in RP so feel free to use that in your scenes now.

As an additional information, O’zark of brown Ferreth, the former Weyrlingmaster decided he was too old and a little too sickly to be responsible for the youth of the Weyr so he has resigned. In his place, the Weyrleaders have promoted the Assistant Weyrlingmaster, M’rman to the rank of Weyrlingmaster. All Weyrlings now answer to him.

The Weyr needs a Candidatemaster. Since it is known that Golds Clutch more often during Pass, there will be many Candidates up and about the Weyr and they need some tutoring and support as well. A few candidates for the position have been suggested already but we do take recommendations.

As the last note, there is a dire need of new Searchriders so all blueriders(adult and those from the older Weyrling class) should have a talk about this with the Weyrlingmaster M’rman. That said, a few greenriders with especially sensitive dragons may also apply.

That’s it! Have a fun September, folk. Winds of Fury Pern RPG steams on and the action is non-stop. Come leave your mark and write your own story.

E'rosen and A'reus' Gossip Corner

E'rosen: And now for the REAL news! Weyr gossip! Where me and my slightly less handsome cohort give you the scoop on whos getting scooped!

A'reus: Because you think you know everything...Yeah..Sure...Anyway! The gossip!

A'reus: Seren's been less of a bitch.

E'rosen: Must be going to her stomach like everything else! Though she's been extra friendly with Mairy lately. I bet you a mark he's the father...

A’reus: Nah, I heard this drudge was the father. Ya know I wouldn't put it past J'cob to be the proud daddy either. He's been knocking up everything with a set of tits.

E’rosen: At least he has good taste for a bronzer! A'jan might as well be gay....mmm...I hope he's gay....

A’reus: I ain’t heard about him with any women...But he’s a bronzer...They don’t swing like that do they?

E’rosen: Heh we should take him down to the Hold then! They've got plenty of pretty girls-and boys. Besides the place is going crazy getting ready for this fancy wedding-and I hear the bride wants nothing to do with it! Bet J'cob knocked her up too.

A'reus: I kinda don't think he's going to go anywhere with you any time soon. I heard he thinks you're a waste of space, and it's right....Do we get to go to the wedding? Uh, is there anyone he's not fiddled with, well 'cept us..

E’rosen: Well I heard he did your mother. And of course we're going to the wedding! Enkala hold HAS to invite the Weyr!

A’reus: J’cob’s my dad! Awesome...Even if we ain’t invited, we’re still going! I reckon we’re out of gossip now you know.

June Summary 2011

Hello everyone!

Here it is! A week late but since I'm on vacation, I'm pretty sure you'll forgive me. Anyway, lets get right down to business seeing as yet another very busy month is behind us.

Link
OOC News.

In June, the following lovely players joined us: Kimitation, O, Lou, Tikuko, ice, kiren, Star, Atlys, SecretAgentStarchild, Silence. There are a few more in the first days of July: please also be welcome Dash and jazz <3 A lot of new characters have been created by all these wonderful new people and a storm has been RPed with them. Great going, folks!

Before I forget(and you, as well since it was a while ago now), we finished our Miss and Mister Pern 1758(2011) contests that were started a few days before our one year anniversary in May. It was a fun competition and bordered on the line of being IC and OOC and these ones are the best, in my opinion. So without further delay, with the people of Enkala having voted, Miss Pern 1758 is Rayna! The beautiful, talented, entertaining and gracious drudge from the Lower Caverns of the Weyr. Congratulations, miss! Mister Pern race was a hard one as well with two bronzer heavy-weights included but in the end, our lovable, darling Mairy - M'rman won the title, much to the delight of majority. He is our Mister Pern 1758! Happy days. Stay tuned for the next year's Miss/Mister Pern events. Same bat channel, same bat time.

I have always meant to mention it but somehow it's always slipped my mind. In addition to our current 5 character per player quota, we have an additional "freebie" outside this quota for anyone making a Holder character or a character that will be living and playing in Enkala Hold most of the time. Some of you know and have made them already, the RP in the Hold is really taking flight right now. It's fun, it's fast-paced, it's Enkala! Wow, I'm so full of punch-lines today.

Tiebreaker for the Design a Badge for Enkala Hold is on vote currently. Please visit the topic here: http://www.dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1441 and give your favourite your vote. They're both lovely.

IC News.

Hoo boy. The following new characters were created in June(and the first days of July): Nayven, H'kyne, X'ale, O'zark, H'vin, Marlena, Danhel, Malakai, Zeyvari, Allarean, Aicus, Cerylia, Thorne, N'seri, C'stor, Natello, Karinai, Alyse. A lot of characters, most of them having sent in for a scene already as well. Great concepts, a few much needed Candidates, all around pile of awesome.

That said, the Hatching is approaching so those of you who are still wondering whether or not to create a Candidate character = dooo it! It'll be fun and all available shades of baby dragons is still available(check the Candidate Information topic here: http://www.dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1322 So, bronzes, browns, blues and greens all readily available as you can see! Upon setting up your Candidate character, please PM me your desired dragon's information(name, colour, temperament, description) or let me know if you do not wish for your character to Impress at all! Oh the drama! There is also a possibility to be surprised by a dragon and a few of you have actually gone for that option, being adventurous and all. Then simply PM me with that and we'll work out a dragon baby for your character to jump at your Candidate at the Hatching. The Hatching itself will take place in the beginning of 8th Month. When it is in real world time, we do not know since we want to finish our First Thread Flight scene first.

And smoothly going onto that topic now. The First Thread Flight is on! All who have signed up for it with their characters should post in the scene: http://www.dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1479 It's a big scene, we're doing it Gather-style where you find yourself a mark and post at them. Wingriders should look out for whatever their Wingleader tells them to, Wingleaders and -seconds, listen to the Flight Leader which is unsurprisingly G'tien. If you miss a cue(getting to the gather spot, lift-off, etc), don't fret - simply post having gone through all that already and dive into Thread Fight.

All through the Flight, we will be sending various characters prompts for Flight events they must then work into their posts. Some will be injured, maybe even killed but of course, killing characters is with the explicit permission from a player so don't worry about randomly loosing your beloved character. The Weyrlings have learned Between and those that have mastered it, have been put to firestone carrying duty, delivering it up into the sky for the Thread fighters. The ground crew must be alert and burn any spores that get past the wings in the air. The healers on ground are Danhel and Graehym(NPC), the dragonhealer staying out of the Flight and ready to treat any wounded dragons is, naturally, E'rosen. Lets have fun!

Searchriders are out! If you want to RP with the lovable blueriders(and maybe a few greens if Seren gets her way), just holler at them. Names are listed in the Hierarchy of Enkala Weyr: http://www.dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10

That's it for this time. It's been an exciting month and I'm sure this will continue on as well. Thank you all for being a part of the community, you rock!

May Summary 2011

Hello hello!

Happy birthday, Winds of Fury! It’s been a year since we started our game up. If you’re curious, it all started with a Wanted ad on RPGD for a Weyrleader and now look where we are. Unbelievable and incredible. I’m so pleased, happy and creatively content to have had this time and plenty of opportunities to play with you all and hope this will continue for many more years to come. Here’s to another year of awesome DRoP roleplaying!

This time the newsletter is a bit longer so please be patient with me as I lay down the news of both OOC and IC happenings. It’ll be fun, I promise.

OOC News:

First of all, as tradition requires, our newcomers! Please welcome the lovely people who joined us in May: Silentarrow, ok, Zen, Selene, Kay, armiece and Dee! Some of you have created your characters already, others we look forward to hearing from about their brilliant ideas. You all know you can go to the chat and tell us anything, be it concerns or comments or questions or plans. Hopefully you’ll make WoF your home as we have and we can celebrate another year passing next May.

Right then. The anniversary festivities contain a few fun events and a contest! The design-a-badge contest was to give our starting out Enkala Hold a coat of arms to be known all over Pern along with its peat. We’ve seen some pretty awesome designs already and SR has kept the contest open for a while longer for a bigger variety. I must say I have a favourite already but it’s SR’s baby and she’s not letting me near it. Psh! You can check out the contest and entries here: http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1202

Now the slightly IC but mostly OOC Mister/Miss Pern 1758 pageant that has been running ever since the anniversary. Both have supplied so much fun and giggles as well as some insight to the minds of the candidates to the title most of everyone want to have, right? Who wouldn’t want to be the manliest guy on Pern or the prettiest princess on the planet? *grins and dodges a rock thrown by Setsuna* Whoa there, little miss.

Anyway, the contest has had two rounds completed already. It started with swimsuit round where a lot of desireable and not so pleasant flesh was flashed and from the nine guys and nine girls nominated, six went on to the next phase which was the talent round. Unfortunately K’rel, E’mris and Fin were voted out in that one. I know, I was shocked, too. And no, Fin, there was no cheating. The honourable judge, the Bitran Donald Tramp was ever so neutral to your questionable talent. From the ladies, Maere, Seren and Shanoa were eliminated. The third rounds – questions and formal wear – is still on-going so I can only announce the winner in the next newsletter. Good luck T’khor, G’tien and M’rman and Verinika, Setsuna and Rayna. Two of these will be crowned soon enough! The Mister Pern 1758 topic is here: http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1200 and Miss Pern 1758 is here: http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1199 I very much recommend going through all the pages for a few indignant snorts and chuckles as well as errr.... pretty pictures. Yes. Enjoy!

As you may have noticed, we have new pretty IC locations banners for each RP area, made by our favourite SR. Much love and praises to her! Also noticeable is the emergence of the HOLD forums!

Yes, that’s right. On our anniversary, the 19th of June, Enkala Hold was officially opened for RP and already established Holders were able to move in. Several other Holder characters were created so the place got started with a roar! There is a plot going on and more to come for the Holders so here’s to the founding of the peat harvesting Hold near the horrible Weyr everyone hates.

I’m sure I’m missing something hugely important in this section but oh well! More information can be found on the forum anyway.

IC News.

The following characters were created in May: Adreasi, Jadrian, Drune, C’amryn, Ever, Jillarian, Vainnan, Doreen, Al’tair, Ilazie, L’ota, A’del, Faun, Silander. That’s QUITE the hoard! And they’ve all been seen in Enkala Weyr or Hold, scurrying around and all. Good stuff!

The biggest and baddest news for was for the dragonriders. In one magnificent dramatic evening and flight, T’khor was stripped of his Weyrleader rank when the Senior Queen Talmeth err... well, lets just say she and Mennoth ended up tangled and made hopefully lots of baby dragons. And as a result, G’tien, the ever charming bronzerider formerly from Ista Weyr now leads Enkala. None but the former Istans(minus the Weyrwoman) are pleased with this development but in the interest of peace and being prepared for Threadfall that will be starting come summer, life continues on.

It was a busy winter for the boys and girls of Enkala Weyr – quite a lot of new children will be born within the next months, congratulations to the happy parents and good on you, Enkala, for having more Weyrbred brats!

The riders of the Black Wing should be aware that their Wingleader is now G’tien while T’khor has been demoted back into wingrider. We hope the transition goes smoothly and no noses will be busted during this difficult time. Let us all try to get along, yes?

After his devastating loss at the Gold flight, Gavanth made it up(as much as that is possible) with going after and winning Enyth’s flight, both the green and her rider were happy as clams! Weyrwoman did not comment and why should she? They’re out of her.. jurisdiction now.

The Weyrguard also has asked me to relay a message to all dragonriders and Weyrfolk concerning the accident with the blue dragon whose wing was severely injured after an unknown projectile wooshed through it at high velocity. The investigation is still underway and the witnesses are being questioned but aside from the fact that there was a big bang right before this happened, nothing is known. Take care when treading out in the open. Perhaps the Thread has come early?

The Searchriders are being sent out again and the Weyrwoman has requested that any who wish to help out M’rman and K’rel in this tough assignment, should report to her or the Weyrleader for assessment.

The last preparations before Pass begins are underway. Anyone with the knowledge of healing or dragonhealing are to let their Wingleader or the Headwoman know immediately for it may yet become useful when Thread starts falling.

More news next time. This month has been quite eventful, lets make the next one just as exciting!

Disclaimer: Anyone wishing to contribute to these publications are welcome to let Nyaare know. Rock on!

April Summary 2011

Hello everyone!

This newsletter also has to cover for the March newsletter that I’m sure some of you noticed did not show up. March was a terribly busy month, I merely forgot. I’m sorry! But this means that this month’s newsletter is double the content because while I was busy, roleplay continued on the forum and people still had fun.

OOC news.

A lot of new people joined the game. One of them had to quit, too. Good luck with the dreaded RL, Tegan :) Aside from her, the new players since the beginning of March are 215024(Khay), Eveykins, J, Wondie, Sara, Mark and whackingfish. It’s an absolute pleasure to have you all, I hope you’re enjoying your time on WoF and continue to do so.

The biggest OOC news is the upcoming anniversary of our little forum. On the 19th of May, 2010 myself and SR started the very first RP scene with what now are the Weyrleaders of Enkala. We’re happy to have spent this year with you all and look forward to many more. The anniversary will bring some fun events, In and Out of character contests and the opening of Enkala Hold for real!

As a pre-announcement concerning this event, I’d like to make it official and let you all know that anyone who wants to create a Holder for Enkala Hold, may do so outside their normal character quota. Plotting has already begun so do join the fun. Just like the Weyr, the Hold is promising to come out just as crazy and full of troublemakers.

More about the anniversary in the next newsletter.

Now onto the less important but just as exciting and fun news. First order of business is the creation of the Matchmaker mission…. Quest… thing. *coughs* Cookie points for whoever gets the reference. In short, the matchmaker mission is to match up people’s characters that either haven’t had enough play, have been forsaken for a while and needs to get back into action or any other reason a person wants. It’s also fun and such. To sign your character up for it, go here and follow the instructions. First attempts have been made and it looks as if it’s working just fine! For these who struggle with first posts there is a possibility to have the staff set up the scene for you and your RP partner we matched you up with and have you follow into it. We hope it will prove a useful tool for everyone.

Another awesome thing that sadly hasn’t been taken advantage of so far but I have high hopes for it, is the Gifts topic. It’s a follow-up on our highly popular Turn’s End gifts topic only this is for all time. Use it to share good news, pretty pictures, poems, jokes… whatever you wish and just have fun with it.

Our time-line has been updated a little to cater to our needs. We hold our scenes in current time set by the timelord SR. Basically we only set the quarter in which we currently play in and then play through that until the next quarter is announced. This should keep us all happy with the progression of time and not rush anyone. Any questions about the time please direct at the mighty timelord.

A lot of great characters were created in March and April, 2011 and here they are: K’rin(Tegan’s character), G’tien, Emalya, Nymue, J’nathan, J’nor, Rayna, Selane, T’ral and Adrejian. Most of them have been seen in action(RP) already, keep going and rock on!

There was a Gather in the Third Month of 1758 to celebrate the establishing of Enkala Hold although the settlement itself was far from ready to be lived in. There was eating and drinking and merriment. Fun was had!

The Weyrlings are having their first flying lessons with the Weyrlingmaster M’vari teaching/forcing them for it. Some are happily skipping along while others are terrified. They will be flying in circles in no time, undoubtedly. All Weyrlings should join the lesson.

The former Istans and the resident Enkalans are struggling to get along. There is awkwardness between many but some are already getting by just fine, starting with the jolly greenriders who have no troubles mingling with various Enkalans, riders and others. Some say the former Wingleader of the Istans G’tien only came to somehow trick the Weyrleadership from the current Weyrleader T’khor but surely that is just a mean rumour, he’s so adorable and polite! The Weyrwoman doesn’t seem impressed though…

And of course, the best way to get to know your fellow dragonriders is to take part in a mating flight! And so it began with Istan green Enyth, indiscriminately chased by both Istans and Enkalans. Ahh, love is in the air. Good luck to all the boys, she’s a pretty one!

Nearly a Turn after her last Flight, the Senior Gold Talmeth has also risen to mate, in order to keep the stream of fresh dragons coming steadily. This close to Pass it is theorized she will be rising quite often from there-on and so the question rose whether the flight would be limited to only the Weyrleader’s bronze or not. But both the gold and the Weyrwoman said nothing – and we all know that which is not forbidden, is allowed! – so now as the gold rises, the boys line up to give chase, their riders confident that THEY will be the next Weyrleader of Enkala. We’ll see what happens!

The Thread is coming so very soon. Is Enkala finally ready? What else can they do to bolster their ranks and improve their quality? Those questions are on everyone’s minds these days as the Red Star glares down at everyone in clear daylight. The answers will be found soon enough…

February Summary 2011

Hello everyone,

It is once again time for the monthly newsletter from Winds of Fury RPG Forum, your (hopefully) favourite place to RP Dragonriders of Pern. Although February was a little shorter month we are still committed to pass on all the fun stuff happening on the forum, out of character and in character.

OOC News.

In February Tikka, katemac and Firecat joined us. We welcome you aboard and hope you'll have a lot of fun with us. Any great ideas, comments, concepts for new characters are always welcome not only for these guys but also those of you already members of old!

As the first issue of OOC news, SRness has been pushing for a spring cleaning on the forum. So Archives sub-forum was added, for old and finished character searches, plot and RP requests, announcements, whatnot.

She also placed two very handy topics into the Records Room: 1) Upcoming events of things about to happen in the future that you, too, can add to by entering your events that you want people to take part of. Say your character has a birthday coming up, another's green dragon is rising, whatever finds your fancy! So take advantage of it. 2) Ongoing events of things happening right now, relative to our timeline. Like with upcoming events, you can also update the ongoing events topic with an event of your own so do so and have fun with it.

Also the ever so popular Drudge Report(the Enkalan Drudge Grapevine) has been moved there and is now officially a part of our in character play. Want to share juicy gossip about your own character or someone else's? Pick up a drudge and have them tell it as it is! You can find the DR here

Our activity check has finished. Everyone not responding to it has had their characters set inactive. While it's incredibly sad, never fear! You may have them revived by returning and simply asking either myself or SRness to make the necessary changes for you. Remember, we don't want to lose good players and characters and would love to have any that have been set inactive back so if you have any doubts of our willingness to do so, don't! We'd be happy to. The activity checks are good for counting our chicks in order to plan for the next part of Enkalan story.

There has also been some discussion about the timeline and how we should move our time ICly forward. Please feel free to chime in at http://www.dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=979

Also, SRness solved the cake vs pie problem. Read all about it here: http://www.dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=961 It's pure magic.

The following lovely characters were created in February: Aering and Arya. A Journeywoman Harper and a Green Weyrling! A good harvest if I say so myself and... I really shouldn't be saying it like this...

As the highly anticipated Valentine's Day event approached, the veil was lifted from what this event was to be and many were surprised! It was a Bad Dream scenario, an alternate universe to our alternate universe game where all the pairings and all the singles(that signed up) were fixed up in the wrong way and completely differently and all according to the evil admin's wicked designs. Valentine Day's events' scenes are all marked with [VD] in title for easy spotting so when you read them... it's really a bad dream someone's having. Or maybe a good dream, depending on their situation in their present timeline. I hope this gives people ideas, inspires them and quite possibly encourages more love into the air at Enkala Weyr!

Winter is tough for the Weyr and it lasts a long time - from the middle of the 11th Month into the 3rd. But now some sunshine is finally seen and all those shivering Istans may hope for the spring to arrive soon. They simply haven't embraced the Enkalan way of spending the winter yet *winks*

Now to get your thoughts out of the gutter, is our traditional question and answers column with Uncle T, this time, who has taken the time off his busy schedule of... well, whatever he was doing and answered a troubled greenrider.

"Dear Uncle T, I really want a baby, but I also want to make a career in this Weyr. Career of baby... what do I do?

Love,
Torn Greenrider."

Torn Female Greenrider,
Consider this: If dragonriders didn't have children before careers who will the next generation of Dragons impress? We simply can't rely on sole holdbred stock for candidates. So with eye on the future of the Weyr, everyone can benefit from you having a child. There are other people, MEN, who can make the careers the Weyr needs.
Do your duty and don't feel bad about,
Uncle T.

As a last note and a bit of a heads up to everyone: In the 3rd Month there will be a Gather held in Enkala Weyr's Gathering Hall(it is still too cold outside) to celebrate the founding of Enkala Hold so don't miss the festivities and take part of the fun. When Enkala Hold will actually be finished and opened is still a mystery but those Holders, they can surprise you like this. One day there is nothing and the next... a whole new Hold in the shadow of the troublemaker Weyr!

Thank you for reading and I hope to see you all on Winds of Fury Forum.

January Summary 2011

Greetings and salutations!

Happy New Year/Turn! In case you’re wondering what in the world I am talking about, the Newsletter is for the Month of January and First Month of 1758 IC-wise. So there we go, a little late as it is, we still wish you the best experience and fun and happiness in the coming Year/Turn. Gifts for the Weyrfolk can be found on the corner table of the Gathering Hall, don’t eat/drink/spend it all at once.

OOC News:

The following members are new from January 2011: Nyrian, Swift and WitchesRayvyn.
Welcome to you all and I hope you’ll have fun on Winds of Fury. As always, plots, open scenes, questions both IC and OOC can be directed at myself or SRness or any member currently online so don’t be shy and do check in and RP with us.

As you may have noticed, it’s been a little quiet on the board. I’d like to say it was because we were still recovering from SR’s birthday bash and turn of the year but obviously much more than that kept us busy. However, WoF will press on and new scenes and plots are incoming so stay tuned.

As a huuuuuuuuugely belated 3000th post present I gave everyone another character slot. In light of the planned (possible) opening of Enkala Hold. Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to save it for that but it is a free tip for a character idea.

I’d like to draw your attention to the Suggestion Box where you can leave your suggestions and comments on how to improve our little forum. Please don’t be shy and we in turn, promise to take every suggestion seriously. Thank you in advance!

It’s time to count our chicks. That means we’re having an activity check. Please goto http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=904 and follow the simple instructions. Please note that everyone who does not reply will automatically be considered inactive. Don’t let it come to that :(

A bit of a heads up: The Valentine’s Day special is about to be revealed so everyone who signed their character’s up, check it out. It is also still possible to register a character to the fun. Here’s the information thread: http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=860

IC News:

Winters are a time of contemplation and cuddling up with your weyrmate or someone who wishes to be your weyrmate. So while Enkalans were busy with that, not much action as such happened. Scenes were of a more comfortable and conversational kind instead of the usual activity. Lets see what the drudges say.

“I sure hope the Weyrleaders aren’t going to let this poisoning thing
slide…”
“Oh! I know who it was. It’s that shifty-looking weyrguard that always
looks like there’s a pimple on his behind.”
“You fool, he just arrived in the 12th Month!”
“Err… Right. Then T’khor better get to the bottom of this.”

---

“I heard the Weyrwoman has her weyrmate tied to the bed so he would heal
completely from the sickness.”
“Maybe it isn’t just to heal…?”
“You dirty bugger!”
“What? All I’m saying is that Seren’s a pretty lady and she makes a lot of
pie these days…”

---

“… but he’s already thirty, he probably has more brats running about the
Weyr...”
“What are you two talking about again?”
“Oh, you know. That Wingleader J’cob. His stand in, Serafina is pregnant
and Marlena said it’s his.”
“Really? I thought he was hot for our Verinika?”
“Well, I heard there’s that greenrider, G’nys…”
“My, what a busy man he is.”

---

“I swear, this is the fifth time in three months that I see the Master
Miner at Enkala. What are they planning?”
“Maere said there might be a Mine or even a Hold being planned nearby and
the Master Miner is surveying the resources.”
“She didn’t exactly say that. She said it’s possible there is some sort of
bog… stuff in the marshes.”
“Real smooth, buddy…”

This was but a few snippets from the corridors of the Weyr. It’s by far not all there is but first, this must happen ICly. If your character is stuck and can’t find a place to play in, there is an Open scenes topic to help you with it. The topic can be found here: http://dancingshadows.net/Windfury/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=879 If you have made an open scene that isn’t posted there, please PM Nyaare or SRness with the link to it. And of course, these scenes listed there are all free to join if your character can find a reason to be in the specified location and you have a desire to post there. Hopefully it’ll help!

Although no characters were added to the roster this January, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of the forsaken characters left in the registration. Maybe we can work out some way to make them work so that you can finish them up and join in the RP? Both admins and the enthusiast plotters on the site are more than happy to help with this. These are the characters waiting for their writers to pretty them up: Karia, Tula, N’rian.

Last but not least, it’s time for our column! This time we have the “Ask Your Harper” column that should help people with relationship challenges ahead. Catch the glimpse of it on the door of the Gathering Hall quickly before the Weyrwoman tears it down again!

„Dear Aunt Finnabelle,

I met a boy recently and he's really charming and understanding. He knew
exactly how I felt about my past love (Blue Healer). It seems too good to
be true. Is he genuine or just a charmer?

~ Insecure Greenie

Dear Insecure Greenie,

You should know one thing about men: They are always, always genuine when
it comes to a girl's feelings. The problems occur when the girl starts to
assume too much from a relationship. That's not to say they don't want you
to jump in with them, because their feelings run deep and true and your
insecurities could seriously reject him and damage your chances...

Good luck with your boy!

~ Aunty Finnabelle„

Ohhh dear. Well that’s it for this time. It’s a little late but it’s a
whole lot of fun to read(I hope!). Please check into Winds of Fury forum
for more information, RP and random gutter talk in the chatbox.

Staff of Winds of Fury RPG forum

NB! As always, this newsletter will also be posted on the WoF Blog at http://windsoffury.blogspot.com/ with pretty pictures and links so check it
out!

December 2010 Summary

Hey everyone,

First and foremost, apologies for the very late newsletter. The turn of the year has passed in a daze and we’re only now getting back onto the saddle(not SR though, she’s born in the saddle and everything). The December Newsletter is therefore slightly shorter and to the point than usual and to execute it properly, we are using the ever so effective BULLET POINT method! So, enjoy <3

OOC(Out of Character) News:

• The following people joined Winds of Fury in December, 2010: Spool, Turtle, Renna, Aello, cada, altair. Please be welcome and enjoy yourselves!
• Biggest Out of Character news and event were the holidays, naturally. We hope everyone had a great Christmas/Hanukkah/whatnot and a very pleasant New Year’s Eve.
• Connected to the previous point is our gifts topic that was open most of December. Thank you, everyone, for posting there and coming up with the most incredible and wonderfully creative presents for both players and characters! The topic itself is here and since it was such a hit, we are going to open a Gifts corner topic that will stay around all the year through for people to post their creative little gifts in.
• We had a Scene of the Month voting. It was for the 11th Month’s scenes but since the voting went into December, we can only announce the winner now. The winner of the Scene of the 11th Month is the scene "What Have I Gotten Myself Into" with the Liberated Holder Maere and the teddybear Weyrlingmaster M'vari. Read it here.
• Last but not least, HAPPY NEW YEAR WoFers! It’s great to have you, hopefully we’ll see many turn of years in the future.

IC(In Character) News:

• In December, the following characters were created: K'mos, L'orm, Shanoa, Renna Myari, Itamar, Catas and S'tola. Have fun playing them.
• Plot-wise, the following events had more of an influence than the great many more personal scenes that were played out.
• The healers finally discovered that the source of the illness came from contaminated water supply. How the 'poison' got into the well remains unknown.
• Enkalan Headwoman Ava succumbed to the sickness in the beginning of the 12th Month. Even though the reason for the illness was found out by then, it was too late for her. The new Headwoman is Marlena(Adoptable NPC).
• There was a fire in the Weyrling Barracks... again. Weyrlingmaster slightly balder once more.
• After the conclusion of the sickness plot, the Istan Wing rumoured to be transferring to Enkala Weyr, finally arrived and was divided into different Wings. This came along with the re-shuffling and changing of every Wing there was in Enkala.
• A restriction for hunting in the Weyr's feeding grounds and from the sick herdbeasts was placed upon all Wings due to the herdbeasts still containing the poison.
• Turn's End came with a very small celebration. All things considered that was fitting.

See you next time, same dragon channel, same dragon time! And remember - you make this news, not us. This all has happened thanks to you so keep playing!

Nya and SR.
